Poem Song with Eric Des Marais

Musician Eric Des Marais and I are collaborating on an LP of “poem songs” created from recordings of poems from my Postcard series. “Bemidji Blues” is a demo of what those tracks may sound like.  Eric and I met 20 years ago in college in Athens, Georgia, where Eric played guitar in Swoon 19, an Athens favorite in the mid-90s. He has been composing electronic music since the late 1990s and is currently playing with treeFungus, a Denver electronic music collaboration with Alexa Jones-Gonzales of Partition 36. This is our first collaboration.

Printable Broadside

After the editors at Broadsided Press selected my poem “Insurance Man 1946,” they passed it along to their group of artists for illustrating. Jim Benning, an Anchorage-based artist, chose it. He created a striking broadside of the poem that's a PDF that can be printed by any printer on a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper. It was reprinted by Broadsided Press on September 1, 2006. Print out copies of it and other broadsides on the Broadsided website. Share them with your friends, or hang them somewhere, anywhere, everywhere.

Animated Poem

This is the product of a long distance collaboration with London-based multi-media artist Steve Keane that resulted from having my poem accepted by the editors of Born Magazine. Its editors describe Born Magazine as “an experimental venue marrying literary arts and interactive media. Original projects are brought to life every three months through creative collaboration between writers and artists.”
